Food Drives Change in 2009:

We are extremely grateful to all of the entities that have conducted a food drive this past year and we thank each and every one of you for your support. Unfortunately, we have had to make an economic decision that we hope will not be offensive to those who want to help. Beginning in 2009, we will be handling food drives differently that we have in the past. We are asking our donors to bring collected food to our warehouse in an effort to save our organization some additional transportation costs that have made a negative impact on our budget.

If you have collected over 1,000 items we will be happy to pick up the food, but we are doing our best to be good stewards with your time and donation. If you do need the donation picked up, please fill out the registration form at the bottom of this page. Thank you!

Tips:

  • Set a goal for the number of people you'd like to participate in the drive.
  • Set a goal for the number of cans each person is responsible for bringing to the drive.
  • Set out a collection box or barrel in a visible area. You can get boxes from the grocery store, or we can provide you with a barrel if you anticipate over 1,000 cans.
  • Hang fliers and posters all around the collection area and any place that participants will see them. We can provide posters if you need them.
  • Distribute a notice asking for the most needed items (see list above) to be placed in the box or barrel.
  • Encourage departments or groups to compete to see who can collect the most cans of food. One company was able to get the boss to authorize extra time off for the winning team!
  • Have fun! Enthusiasm and excitement are contagious, especially when the effort helps such a good cause.
